2021 Halliday Companion Reviews Side Gate Wines

We're very pleased with this years reviews in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. Here's what they had to say about our wines:

2021 HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION REVIEWS:

SIDE GATE ART SERIES
2018 Tempranillo Adelaide Hills

Macerated for 10 days before transfer to older French wood for a year of maturation. A large-framed wine that is as pulpy, grapey and joyous as it is astringent and twiggy across the finish. This said, it is among the better renditions of this grape in Australia and I have faith that the components will meld in time. Dark fruit allusions, anise and violet.

SIDE GATE ART SERIES
2018 Tempranillo + Pinot Noir Adelaide Hills

Tempranillo is the mainstay of the blend at 70%, servicing a plump medium-bodied red. Highly versatile at the table, with a juiciness that belies most domestic expressions of this Iberian variety. I can only think that pinot's svelte nature underpins it all. Dark cherry, satsuma plum and five-spice notes are bound by a weave of savoury tannins, dusty and pliant. This is a good drink.

SIDE GATE
2018 Organic Riesling Clare Valley

This mid-weighted riesling is palpably softer than the traditional regional style. All the better for it. Lemon oil, quince, Rose's lime and a precocious waft of petroleum define the nose. The finish is tingly and energetic enough.
